“Katharine Britton’s Little Island flows with such luscious writing I wanted to slow down to savor it and a plot so compelling I tore through the book as if I were reading a page-turner mystery. The complicated, flawed, generous Little family reminded me of my own, and how, in the midst of the risks and raptures and currents of life, we save one another.”

Nancy Thayer
author of Island Girls

“[A] deeply compassionate story of an extended New England family beleaguered by loss, misunderstandings, and terrible secrets... [Britton] understands how, through love, the human heart can overcome just about anything.”

Howard Frank Mosher

These are Grace's mother’s last words – left behind on a note. A note that Grace interprets as instructions for her memorial service. And so her far-flung clan will gather at their inn on Little Island, Maine, to honor her.

Grace's daughter, Joy, dreads the weekend. Facing an empty nest and nebulous future, she feels more vulnerable than ever to the dangerous currents running through her family. Twenty years ago, a tragedy nearly destroyed the Littles – and still defines them. Grace, her husband Gar, Joy, and Joy's twin siblings Roger and Tamar each played a role in what transpired.

But this weekend, they will discover that there is more than pain and heartbreak that binds their family together, when a few simple words lift the fog and reveal what truly matters.
